Shopping for gifts can be difficult. Trying to choose the perfect item for your loved one takes a lot of time and creativity. Thankfully, we’ve got a gift-giving hack for you to try out, and it’s sure to please anyone on your list.
The secret gift-giving hack
This is a gift-shopping technique that a friend of mine showed me, and I’ve kept doing it ever since! The basic idea is that you take a useful container — i.e. a cute basket, bucket — and fill it with small items customized to the recipient.
The great thing about this tip is that it’s easy to adapt for anyone: whether it be a kid or adult, boy or girl — you name it.
Let’s break down what this looks like.
As mentioned, my two favourite examples are a cute basket or a bucket. A basket can always be re-used for different things, and a metal bucket is handy to have around the house or for the garden.
The key here is that the container isn’t just to hold the rest of your gifts — it’s something that your recipient will be able to use, time and time again. I did this hack when giving my dad a gift, and he still uses the bucket to this day!
Your smaller items
When shopping for smaller items, the key is to make things as personal as possible. Don’t just pick up some generic chocolates: make a point of going out and purchasing your loved one’s favourite snacks.
Once you’ve got some snacks, pick up a few extras, whether they be some pens and a notebook or some nail polish and hair clips. Again, pick something that aligns with your loved one’s interests.
To help this come together, I’ll walk you through some examples of what you could throw together.
If you’re buying a gift for your grandma who loves to garden, you could pick up:
- A nice bucket or watering can (to use as a container)
- Some of her favourite candies
- A pair of gardening gloves
- A mini shovel
- Some fake flowers as decoration
To put everything together, arrange the smaller items (candies, gardening tools) inside the container. Pop on a little bow, and you’re all set! The container doubles as the wrapping, so there’s no need to pick up a gift box or gift bag.
What about a gift for dad? You could try:
- A metal bucket (as a container)
- A can or two of his beer or choice
- Some of his favourite chips/candies
- A personalized mug
But these are only a few examples. Again, make sure you tailor everything to suit your loved one’s interests. This will make them feel special and appreciated, because you clearly took the time to pick something just for them.
You don’t need to splurge to make this hack work!
And this doesn’t need to be expensive, either. You can easily head over to your local dollar store, where you should be able to find a nice basket/bucket and some affordable snacks/smaller items.
Personally, that’s one of my favourite way to shop for this kind of gift. Dollar stores always have a wide variety of things, so you’re sure to find items for anyone on your list.
