One of the most quintessential parts of Christmas for kids is writing their letters to Santa. Each year, our kiddos eagerly write their wish lists for Santa Claus as a well-loved Christmas tradition. It’s a time for kids to have fun and dream big.

But what if there was a way to take all that magic and use it in a practical way for Christmas shopping, too? Enter: wish lists.

Here at WishSlate, we know the value in creating a shareable wish list. It makes life so much easier, because you and your kids can create a list of all your favourite products to share with friends and family. You can view each other’s profiles, making gift shopping much simpler.

Wish lists, and Christmas lists, help us gift better. There’s no more guessing or buying gifts on a whim. You can go straight to someone’s wish list, find something you know they’ll love, and reserve it.

So, here’s how you can set up Christmas lists for your children this year.

Visit app.wishslate.com

First, you’re going to want to create a WishSlate account. This is completely free and only takes a minute. Go to app.wishslate.com, and you’ll see a pop-up like this:

But, here’s the cool part. Your kid might be too young to have an email address, but there’s a workaround that you can use to make this much simpler.

All you have to do is use your email address (ex: mom100@gmail.com) and add “+childname” (ex: “+timmy”) before the @ sign (i.e. mom100+timmy@gmail.com).

This will create a new child account with this email ID, but all the emails and updates will be delivered to your inbox. That way, you can keep track of all the items your child adds to their wish list, so you can monitor for anything that shouldn’t be on there.

Start getting ideas for their Christmas list

Next, once you’ve created an account, comes the fun part! Have your kids start making their list with Christmas gift ideas. There are a number of ways to do this.

You can have your child start making their wish list by hand at first, if that’s easier for them (depending on their age). Have them write out some of their gift ideas and let them enjoy using their imagination.

Then, you can try finding some of the items online. Depending on how old your child is, they might be able to do this on their own, with your supervision, or you may need to do this step for them.

All you need to do is find some items from any store, and move on to the next step.

Start adding items to your WishSlate

Now that you’ve come up with some ideas and have found them online, all you need to do is add them to your WishSlate. And our paste link feature makes that a breeze!

  1. Copy the URL of your kid’s favourite item from any store they like.
  2. Paste it into the app where it says “Paste link to add item.”
  3. Watch the details populate! Once they’ve loaded, make any corrections necessary, add a note in the description field (if you want), and click Save.

And then repeat!

We’ve also got a really cool new feature called the Discover tab, where you can browse through tons of great gift ideas for you or your kids. This is a super-easy way to start building your Christmas list without much effort!

Add friends and family on your kid’s account

Once you’ve built out a Christmas list, it’s time to start getting social! Simply search for friends and family using the search bar, and follow each other to stay up-to-date on one another’s wish lists.

You’ll get birthday reminders when their special day is coming up, and everyone from the grandparents to aunts and uncles can find great gift ideas for your kids this way.

And then you’re good to go!
