The weather is getting cooler, and with it comes some fun family fall activities! Every family has their own traditions, but here are some easy ideas for you to try.
Go for a group hike
With the cooler weather comes a much more comfortable hike! Say goodbye to the overly-hot days of summer, and get a workout in as an entire family.
Research hiking trails in your area, and take a day to explore! If you have younger kids, you may want to choose an easier hike, but if your children are older, you can have your pick of some more difficult ones, too.
Don’t forget to pack some water, snacks, equipment, and a map! And get dressed well with proper attire and good hiking footwear. This is such a fun adventure to take as a group.
Take a day at the park to play in the leaves
Another fun way to enjoy nature is to hop on over to your local park. This is best when the leaves have fallen to the ground, because you and the kids can make a game of it. See who can make the biggest pile of leaves and have fun jumping in them!
The beautiful fall colours are great this time of year, so don’t miss out. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy; any park will do!
Go for a camping trip
Another fun way to enjoy the cooler weather is to go camping as a family. Research your local national parks and see if you can book a few days to disconnect together.
Switch off the phones and take time to slow down. Enjoy beautiful hikes, kayaking, and more. Don’t forget to make some s’mores over the campfire at night, too!
Stay at a cabin or cottage
If you’re not the camping type, a cabin or cottage might be just what you need! You’ll still get to enjoy the slower pace of being in nature, but with more of the comforts of home (like running water, a fridge, stove, etc.).
Take a few days (or weeks!) to make precious family memories there together. You can’t forget the campfire, playing board games after dinner, and maybe going fishing, too.
Go apple picking for the afternoon
Last but not least, going apple picking is a quicker but still super fun activity! Take the afternoon off and drive down to your local apple orchard. This is another way to make great family memories.
Take turns lifting up the kiddos to pick their very first apples. And at the end of the day, you go home with lots of fresh fruit to make warm apple pies and other dishes.
